Halal Australia – Certification Process
Fees and Charges Guideline
There is a one off application fee of $110 (inclusive of GST) that is payable at this stage to commence processing. For each additional factory site form submitted a one-off non-refundable application processing of $110 (inclusive of GST) is payable.
The form requests information relevant to the approval of your products and premises, such as the number of products per site to be certified and information regarding the composition of each product.
After we have had the opportunity to assess the nature of the work involved, a quote will be provided at this point. The cost for certification depends on a range of factors including:
- Product category
- Risk factors involved from a Halal and quality point of view
- Complexity of the work involved
- Nature of the company requiring certification
- Level of assistance required in developing and implementing Halal Quality Program
- Frequency of inspection visits
- Need for ongoing support systems
The costs involved can be broken down into three main components:
- Certification of Site: recognition of your premises’ suitability to product halal goods
- Certification of Products: recognition of the product itself as halal
- Inspection and Audit: after certification, one compulsory yearly inspection (unless otherwise states) is conducted (charged at standard ATO rates for time/travel expenses and arranged at a mutually convenient time), as well as a minimum of one random inspection (the frequency depends on the risk level of the product and/or premises). There may also be an initial one-off inspection of the premises for purposes (inclusive of consultation), which may be charged at an at-cost basis.
The ongoing annual renewal fee would essentially be the fee initially charged for certification (charged on a recurrent basis each year), and assuming the frequency of the inspection/s remains the same, the cost for that would generally remain the same also.
Regretfully we are unable to provide you with a proper estimate until we have had a chance to assess the full information and details provided in the application form, and request further information if needed. Once the form is lodged, we will get back to you with an estimate within 5-10 working days.
Once you have accepted this quote, we will inform you as to whether your application has been tentatively approved, or follow up information may be requested. An inspection of your premises will also need to be scheduled at a mutually convenient time. This is to allow certification of the premises as suitable for the preparation of halal goods.
Once your products and premises are approved, an original certificate certifying the halal compliance of your products and premises is issued. Your certification will be renewed annually subject to meeting all halal requirements.
